In a landmark move to strengthen Malaysia's economic foundation, five of the country's leading banks have announced a comprehensive joint initiative specifically designed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across the nation.
The initiative, dubbed "SME Growth Partnership," brings together Maybank, CIMB Bank, Public Bank, RHB Bank, and Hong Leong Bank in an unprecedented collaboration that will streamline lending processes and reduce interest rates for qualified SMEs by up to 2%.
According to Bank Negara Malaysia, SMEs contribute approximately 38% to Malaysia's GDP and employ over 7 million people, making their success crucial for the country's economic recovery and growth.
The program is expected to benefit over 100,000 SMEs across various sectors, including manufacturing, services, agriculture, and technology. Applications open next Monday through all participating bank branches and online portals.

Malaysia's Ministry of Education has unveiled an ambitious new digital learning framework that will revolutionize how students across the country receive education, emphasizing technology integration and 21st-century skills development.
The comprehensive framework, developed over two years with input from educators, technology experts, and international education consultants, aims to prepare Malaysian students for the digital economy while maintaining strong fundamentals in core subjects.
Education Minister Dr. Noraini Ahmad announced that the framework will be implemented in phases, beginning with primary schools in urban areas before expanding to rural schools and secondary institutions by 2025.
The framework includes provisions for teacher training programs, infrastructure upgrades, and the deployment of learning management systems across all public schools. An estimated RM2.8 billion has been allocated for implementation over the next three years.
